A Very Late New Year Post
Once again, quite a bit of time has passed since our last blog. We’ve had holidays, birthdays, another very important gig, moves. With the busyness of our personal and professional lives giving us a little reprieve over this holiday weekend, we wanted to take a moment to first wish each of you a happy New Year! Last year came with it’s share of obstacles, but we are happy with the progress UD made. We hope you feel the same way about your year.
Last we checked in, we’d done a couple of gigs, and were prepping for another. This gig was a very important one, one that we couldn’t have been happier to cater. UD is a family-owned, family-oriented business. To be able to work with and for family- two sides of our very large family at that - was a very special opportunity for us.
On 12/26, we catered the 90th birthday celebration for the Osborn family matriarch, Rachel Osborn. If you know her, you know what a blessing it is to be able to say that. Honoring her through laughter, tears, stories, music, and food was absolutely lovely. But the loveliness doesn’t end there. We also had the privilege of working with our family (literally and figuratively speaking) over at Luxury Event Designs to pull the whole thing off. Also a black women-owned business, Luxury Event Designs focuses on event planning and decorating for intimate to large gatherings. Please visit their page and hit their inbox if you’re looking for elegant, professional designs for your next (COVID-safe) event!
While LED was busy making the venue beautiful, UD was busy making the food. The good news: the food was great and received rave reviews. The bad news: we didn’t get a single picture. Lighting at the food station was poor and tinted blue, so unfortunately we didn’t get great pics. But that’s okay! The event was still a success, and we had a blast catering for family at an event put together by family and decorated by family.
It should be no surprise that the UD team has been busy in their own kitchens in the time that’s lapsed between blogs (Stephanie has been particularly happy to break in her brand new stove now that she’s all moved in). What we love most about that is every so often in our family texts, we get to experience other members of our family sharing their experiments with us too. It’s a way some of us have come to stay connected during the pandemic, and it’s always a treat!
Over the next few blogs, we want to share some of those things with you as we continue with #UDathome. It’s a glimpse into our kitchens, but we hope to get a glimpse into yours, too! Shoot us a message here, or send us an email if you’re feeling inspired to share your own version of #UDathome. Help us get the word out and post your stuff on social media with the tag #UDathome!
As always, thanks for being part of the UD community. We look forward to the way it expands in the new year. Take care, stay safe, and may 2022 bring all of the love and good food you deserve!
